As with all artwork, this painting has a story behind its creation. A collector of mine asked me to do a painting to hang on the outside wall of one of his three cottages situated in beautiful Cottage Country north of Toronto Ontario. Located on the shore of a beautiful lake and surrounded by trees and granite rock he regularly watched Great Blue Herons soaring towards the lake with their awkward beautiful and awesome grace. He is a retired airline pilot and loved the idea of a flying heron on one of his rental cottages where he could see it from his own windows. I painted this painting as his preliminary look into what I had planned. With his approval, I prepared and painted the same image on plywood considerably larger. I used acrylic paint and several layers of protection so that it would hang out of doors for 3 seasons of the year, coming indoors only in winter. My client approved heartily.
